Pregnancy, Prevention, Women, Teens and Abortion

We will talk about this as the semester rolls on, but I hope everyone is paying attention to the very drastic things happening in the US House....last week the House voted to cut funding for Title X - which provides money to subsidize contraceptive, family planning, and prevenatative healthcare services for men and women. The bill also explicitly cut all funding for Planned Parenthood  - one of the main providers of this care.

Read this article here.

Keep in mind, regardless of our individual views on abortion - over 95% of services offered by Planned Parenthood are not abortion - they are cancer screenings, pap smears, birth control, etc.

How will this impact teen pregnancy? What is the goal of this bill?

  1. I don't know if you were posting this as a rhetorical thing, but I am really glad you did. I feel very overwhelmed and angry by all of this. I feel that most people haven't heard about it or don't care enough to do something about it. It's frightening to think about the dangerous ramifications that the passing of this cut could be. When coupled with the suggested Department of Education cuts and/or the Teach for America cuts, it feels as if the future for the young people (myself included) could be completely fucked (for lack of a better word).

I am determined to make people care and make people pay attention. If you ignore your rights, they WILL go away.

  2. This makes me so mad and angry. It would be real stupid for the US house to vote to cut the funding for Title X. From what I understand and what I read they seem like they want to target abortion. If they vote to cut funding for Title X, they would be shutting down Planned Parenthood, who is funded by Title X. Planned parenthood is the largest recipient of federal family planning funds and the largest abortion provider in the country. So many women and teenage girls and boys rely on Planned Parenthood, especially those who are in poverty. They do so much for the community. In the article it said contraception accounts for 35 percent; testing for sexually transmitted diseases, 34 percent; cancer screening and prevention, 17 percent. So many people would be affected, me included. I get all my testing and birth control from Planned Parenthood. If they cut the funds more teens and adults would be ta more risk for all types of things; pregnancy, stds, even stress. When teens cannot talk to their parents or friends about sex they can go to Planned Parenthood and get information or talk to somebody. If we as people step up and get our voices heard about this outrageous decision something could probably be done. And this Republican Mike Pence can kiss my you know what!!!!
